French Buildings
French Buildings

Michael is a Ph.D. student in this lab. We had a short talk after working. He taught me the pronunciation of French words. I tried to jot everything down so that I can learn it in the future. The ways the French people pronounce are too different and so difficult for me. This is the pronunciation for five different words.

Laid = ugly
Lait = milk
Lai = poetry (old)
Les = the (plural)
Laie = pig (feminine)

This week I did some DMA testing. I started learning how to use the machine and how to run tests. It is not difficult because it is just setting up everything. I just need to know how to click the button and to wait for the result. I hope I can get into more detail about the machines and not only just know how to run a test.

Lucrs and Laurant, two other guys from the same lab who are the undergraduate researchers, asked us to hang out in a pub. We met in Palais de Justice in downtown and headed to an Irish pub. It was the final for the UEFA Champions League; the pub was full of people. People are really crazy about soccer in France, just like how the people in America are crazy with football. I had my first beer in my entire life; it was a French beer, Kronenburg. They could not believe it was my first beer. After that, we also moved to another pub for another round. This pub was much quieter with nice music and decoration. Old bicycles and a classical piano hung from the top. I enjoyed that environment a lot.

On Thursday night, we had dinner in Lucrs' house. We had pasta with tuna and cream. It was delicious plus easy to cook. He lives in a typical French house; buildings with different heights are connected together. I can't imagine how small the staircase is to go up to his apartment. It is only wide enough to fit two people.
