Provided below are answers to the questions most asked in regard to attending the career fair. Please contact 402.554.3918, if additional information is needed.
Who should attend the Career Fair?
Students who are enrolled in The Durham School programs-Architectural Engineering, Construction Management or Construction Engineering; students who are enrolled in Civil Engineering programs; and, students interested in a career in any of the fields mentioned above.
What should I wear to a career fair?
Career fair dress should be either "business casual" or "business." If you have a suit, plan to wear that to the fair. If you do not have a suit, dress slacks, a button down shirt and a tie are appropriate for men and dress slacks or a skirt and a button down shirt or knit top are appropriate for women. Jeans, gym shoes, torn clothing and skirts that fall above the knee are NOT appropriate dress for a career fair.
What should I bring to a career fair?
Be sure to bring several copies of your (error free) resume, as well as a portfolio or folder to carry your resume in and place business cards into. Also remember to bring a pen or pencil, a notepad and breath mints.
I've never been to a career fair before. What do I say to employers?
Prepare a brief 30 second "commercial" about who you are and why you are interested in the company. Practice your commercial before you come to the fair. Visit the Career Resource Center at The Peter Kiewit Institute for assistance with the development of your resume/cover letter and to schedule a mock interview with business/industry representatives so that you are prepared.
How should I prepare for a career fair?
In addition to attending the Career Fair Prep Workshop, view the list of participating companies and begin researching the ones that interest you in advance of the career fair. Visit company websites. Check current job openings to get an idea of what skills and education are required to work for that company.
How do I submit my resume for the career fair? Is there a deadline?
