Technical Requirements of University of Nebraska-Lincoln Six-Sigma Green/Black Belt (UNL SSBB) Certification

General Purpose:

 To give specific information about the UNL’s CSSBB Certification


Minimum Requirements: The minimum requirements for a UNL’s CSSBB are:

  • IMSE 996A – Advanced Topics on Total Quality Management with Six-Sigma Methodology or
    • Online Equivalent
    • Extended Education Summer Equivalent (1 week a month for 4 months)
  • UNL CSSBB Certification Exam with a 70% better
  • 2 Board Approved Six-Sigma Projects (1 Board Approved Project with relevant experience or project size)
  • Board Approved Project requires
    • Signed Affidavit form
    • Oral Presentation and soft copy of Power point
    • Written paper or article describing the project or aspect of the project
    • Project Charter

Note: All documents will be posted UNL Six Sigma Website for Board to download and review


Preferred Requirements:
The additional preferred requirements include:
  • Class on Design of Experiments
  • Class on advanced Regression techniques
  • Project Management or Engineering Management class

Project Certification Process:
  • Project must be approved prior to project start by instructor
    • Applicant must take part as project manager or assistant lead on project with responsibility for results
  • Project must save $ 100,000 EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Taxes)
  • Project sponsor signature required and verification on affidavit
  • Specific examples of tools used, i.e., process maps, metrics (DPU, DPMO, RTY), procedures, charts, etc ., must be demonstrated in power point and oral presentation
  • Certification Committee approval of all projects

Certification Committee:
The certification committee will consists:
  • 8 members and a chairman
  • Initially chaired by Dr. Erick C. Jones
  • 5 members from industry preferably Master Black Belts or Black Belts from their representative company- The chair will appoint
  • 2 members from the faculty of University of Nebraska with background in manufacturing, statistical process control, design of experiments, regression, quality control, and project management – the Chair will appoint these members based on background.
  • 1 member from Engineering College Deans office

Costs:
  • Registration for class
    • University may assess additional fees
  • Online instruction
  • Special certification
  • Non-registrants must pay university equivalent registration fees
  • Purchase reference materials for class
  • Certification Cost $4,000
