Support Programs
Summer Transfer Enrichment Program
A five day visit to UNL will provide you the opportunity to become familiar with the college of engineering. This program will orient you to the facilities and educational resources of the college and university. You will also learn about the expectations of being an engineering student, be advised on course offerings, meet with faculty and administrators. You should feel better prepared to start UNL, reduce your anxieties about attending UNL and network with other students. Attend the summer before you transfer to UNL. There is no cost for participation.
Parent Orientation Program
The College of Engineering will offer a one-day orientation for parents of transfer students. This orientation program will provide an opportunity for parents to become familiar with university and the college. This program will provide parents answers to academic majors and degree requirements; familiarize them with information about typical engineering experiences and expectations; introduce nonacademic support services; offer insight into adjustments facing transfer students; and develop a UNL network by interacting with other parents attending the program.
Peer Mentoring Program
Peer mentors can help students adapt to university community life, cope with the demands of study, understand expectations at the university, and develop and improve study strategies. Emphasis for this program will be placed on the transition to the four-year college environment for first-year transfer students.
Career Development Workshops
We will hold workshops on community college campuses for UNL STEP participants in preparation for the internship experience. Topics to be covered include: job search strategies, interviewing techniques, preparing a professional resume and cover letter, corporate etiquette and ethics, and professionalism and interpersonal relationships.
Internships
Students will work in a 10-12 week summer internship. The internship enhances classroom experiences by providing practical work experiences in areas related to course content and career goals. Internships are also a way for students to gain valuable work experience, connect classroom experiences and concepts to real-world experiences, gain a better understanding of corporate America, and earn money for school expenses. Interns will receive a salary during the work experiences at the expense of the hiring company.Honors Programs and Support
