A Special Program of the College of Engineering

Minor in Biomedical Engineering

With a minor in Biomedical Engineering (BME), you can greatly increase your opportunities to take part in this exciting new career field.  A BME minor coupled with a degree in one of the eight engineering majors on the Lincoln campus of the College of Engineering can lead to careers in medical research, teaching, industrial and government health care, and in medical practice. Ever growing applications of BME include tissue engineering, biomaterials, biomechanics, biosensors, bioinstrumentation, nanobiology, medical imaging, robotics and ergonomics, as well as clinical, orthopaedic, and rehabilitation engineering.

The BME minor requires a total of 24 credit hours and is patterned after the multi-disciplinary nature of BME.  Thus, courses in biology and physiology are required as well as a minimum of two biomedical engineering courses from outside your engineering major. Depending on your major and the choice of electives within your major, from two to seven additional courses may be needed to complete the Minor in Biomedical Engineering. Specific requirements for the Minor are shown below.
