Alumnus Addresses Graduates, Receives Honorary Degree
|General Claude M. Bolton Jr. gave the keynote address at UNL's commencement.
Gen. Claude M. Bolton Jr., ’69, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisitions, logistics and technology, gave the keynote address at UNL’s commencement May 5. Bolton, who has a B.S. in electrical engineering, also received an honorary doctor of science degree from Chancellor Harvey Perlman during commencement exercises.
A retired U.S. Air Force general, Bolton received his military commission through the UNL Air Force ROTC program. During his distinguished 33-year career, he was a combat pilot in more than 230 missions, a flight instructor, a cutting-edge test pilot who flew a dozen types of newly developed aircraft, deputy program director for the B-2 Bomber System Program, and director of the Advanced Cruise Missile System Program. At the time of his retirement, he was director of the global supply system for the Air Force Materiel Command, where, among other responsibilities, he managed $90 billion in weapons sales to 80 foreign countries.
