You are invited to participate in TEAMS at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering, Friday, March 7, 2008
Why Engineering?
- Show your students how math and science are applied in the real world of engineering.
- Engineering is the application of mathematics and science in the production of systems, processes, machines, and structures for the benefit of society.
- Engineering is an exciting profession that is critically important to society.
- No other career field yields such wide career options. With an engineering degree, a student may become an astronaut, patent attorney, Fortune 500 CEO, college professor or dean, doctor, president of the United States...the opportunities are endless.
Why TEAMS?
TEAMS is a program of the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) and is a day-long competition of engineering challenges illustrating how science and math principles, along with creativity and innovation, are applied to the real world of engineering.
Ninety locations across the country host more than 14,000 students for the competition. This year, the competition will tap into the excitement of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, with students discovering behind-the-scenes challenges involved in conducting large-scale athletic events.
Competition details include:
- Teams generally consist of 4-8 students in grades 9-12
- Schools may enter more than one team (both junior varsity and varsity-level)
- Teams are coached by an adult (i.e. teacher, counselor, parent, or professional engineer)
