Engineering Exploration Week (EEW):

Download The Brochure

EEW is a one-week day camp comprised of mini-workshops for students entering grades 10-12. The camp will be hosted at The Peter Kiewit Institute(PKI) in Omaha where participating students will have the opportunity to explore engineering programs available in Omaha.

The workshops will be held in June, 2009. Lunch will be provided at all sessions.

If you have a passion for science and math, join us for fun activities that will give you a better understanding of the many facets of engineering.

Computer & Electronics Engineering
Have you ever wondered how your alarm clock works, or how your car knows when you do not have your seatbelt on? In this session, we will be investigating how electronics play an important role in everything a person does on a daily basis--even how some people brush their teeth! We will first learn a little about the fundamentals of Digital Electronics then simulate a project in software. From this simulation, we will then physically build the project on the breadboard and test it by daisychaining several projects together to see what happens!

$30
Civil Engineering
Civil engineering is the art and science of designing the infrastructure that make up a CIVILized society. This infrastructure includes: highways, buildings, railways, bridges, airports, tunnels, and water reservoirs. Civil engineers design structures that meet the needs of growing populations while protecting the environment, reducing the dangers from natural hazards like earthquakes, and considering future needs of the community. Come join us in learning how cool it is to be a civil engineer!

$30
Construction Engineering and Mgmt
Construction Engineering and Construction Management are growing occupations which incorporate the skills necessary to design and/or manage multimillion dollar projects. These skills provide you the opportunity to travel the country and the world. In this session, we will learn the basics of construction project management, such as working on teams, and construction engineering as it relates to building structures. We will divide into teams and build a bridge using K'nex, which will then test to see how much weight it can hold. Most importantly, we will be having fun!

$30
Architectural Engineering Exploration
Have you ever wondered what happens once a building is designed? Your questions will be answered in this fun interactive workshop where you will learn the variety of facets to building design. Explore how the mechanical, acoustic, electrical, lighting, and structural building components come together when designing a building.

$30
Industry Visit Day
Participants will travel to local engineering firms to tour their facilities, meet with current engineering professionals, and to learn more about the field of engineering.

$35
*Pay by the session or participate in all 5 days for the special price of $145.
