Graduate Students Map

Welcome to The Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction. We’re the only school within the UNL College of Engineering and offer programs in Architectural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Construction Management.

Our graduate programs are located both on the UNL City Campus in Lincoln and at The Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI) in Omaha. Having these three programs interconnected allows our students to learn from and conduct research with faculty with diverse areas of expertise, as well as interact with industry professionals throughout the area.

ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING

Architectural Engineering (AE) focuses on the design, integration and coordination of building engineering systems, including structural systems; heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; acoustical systems; and lighting and electrical systems.

  • Demand for architectural engineering graduates is very high, because there are only 15 programs in the country, while there are thousands of architectural engineering design firms
  • One of the top architectural engineering programs in the country
  • A five-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Architectural Engineering degree
  • Many internship opportunities with Nebraska's concentration of architectural engineering design firms, including three of the country's largest firms

Four graduate programs are offered in Architectural Engineering through the university.

CONSTRUCTION

  • Master of Engineering (M.Eng.): The Master of Engineering program offers a unique blend of courses in construction, business management, engineering and law. The program is oriented toward individuals who want to pursue advanced studies in construction with an emphasis on real-world applications. The Master of Engineering in Construction degree requires that individuals applying have at least two years of experience in a construction or construction-related business or industry.
  • Master of Engineering in Construction (M.S.): The Master of Science (M.S.) in Construction is a research-oriented advanced degree. The degree program is for individuals with a degree in engineering or management area who wish to acquire knowledge or skills for higher level technical or management work, and who want an introduction to graduate level research. The M.S. in Construction is offered on the Lincoln City Campus. Tracks are offered in Construction Engineering and Construction Management.
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.): The Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering has a construction Ph.D. specialization. This program is offered through the Charles W. Durham School of Architectural Engineering & Construction and is sponsored by Construction Management and Construction Engineering on the UNL College of Engineering's Lincoln and Omaha campus.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

We welcome students from counties around the world to join our graduate programs in architectural engineering and construction. Graduate students in our program are UNL students, but they attend the majority of their Architectural Engineering classes on the UNO campus. The degree received is from the University of Nebraska.
