IN MEMORY OF GEORGE SCHADE

George R. Schade, associate professor of mechanical engineering, died unexpectedly on May 22. He was born June 25, 1944 in Pocahontas, Ia. Schade earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Iowa State University. He worked as a senior developmental engineer for Honeywell, then joined the UNL faculty in 1979. With the Department of Mechanical Engineering, he taught system and design classes including MECH 446, 447, 452/852 and 450/850. His research interests included automatic control and stability, and probabilistic design of mechanical systems and automatic controls. He was a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

A campus memorial is scheduled for Thursday, May 28 at 2 p.m. in UNL's City Union, Regency Suite, 14th and R Streets. Visitation follows from 4 to 6 p.m. at Roper & Sons in Lincoln.
