Approved Minors - Lincoln

Some Civil Engineering students choose to add a minor to their degree program. The College of Engineering and Technology enables students to participate in a range of approved minor subjects. A minor will not reduce or alter the existing course or degree requirements of students electing to pursue a minor. See the Undergraduate Bulletin for the College of Engineering polices related to minors. Consult with your academic advisor to develop a plan for incorporating a minor into your program of study.

Most Common Minors for Civil Engineering Students:

Business:

Requires a total of 32 to 38 credit hours. With proper planning, all but 7 to 9 of the required credit hours can also count as towards the B.S. CIVE degree. MATH 106, CSCE 150, IMSE 321 or STAT 380, and IMSE 206 can count toward both the CIVE major and Business minor. ECON 2111 and 2121 or 2101, MNGT 3601, and either MNGT 3612 or MGNT 4282,3 or can be applied toward the CIVE major's Soc-Hum elective category and the Business minor. Careful planning of all Soc-Hum electives taken is required to ensure the ES and IS requirements are satisfied. Classes required for the minor beyond those that will apply toward the CIVE major include ACCT 201 and 202 or 306 and MRKT 341.
1- Soc-Hum Essential Studies Area C (Human Behavior, Culture, and Social Organizations)
2- Soc-Hum Essential Studies Area H (Race, Ethnicity, and Gender)
3- Integrative Studies

Construction Management:

Requires a total of 27 credit hours. With proper planning, all but 13 of the required credit hours can also count as towards the B.S. CIVE degree. CNST 112 (2 hrs), CNST 241, CNST 485 and, BLAW 372 can count toward both the CIVE major and Construction Management minor. MNGT 360 can applied toward the CIVE major's Soc-Hum elective category and the minor. Classes required beyond those that will apply toward the CIVE major include CNST 305, CNST 378, CNST 379 and CNST 480.

Mathematics:

Requires 12 credit hours beyond the calculus sequence (MATH 106-208) and differential equations (MATH 221). These courses may be chosen from the 300 and/or 400-level courses offered by mathematics and statistics except MATH 350, 450, and 460. With proper planning, 9 credit hours can also count toward the B.S. CIVE degree (6 hours as technical electives and MATH 340 for the Computer Methods requirement); thus a minor could be obtained with as little as 3 credit hours beyond those required for the B.S. CIVE degree.
