The Advising Process
New undergraduate students that begin coursework towards the goal of a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree will have one faculty member assigned as their advisor. The student should consult his/her advisor at any time during the academic year for advice on courses and the civil engineering program in general. It is especially important to meet with an advisor in advance of course registration to assure that a logical sequence of coursework is maintained. Missing a fundamental course early in the program can cause a delay in attaining a degree in four years.
Once a student has completed 43 credit hours, he/she can apply to be accepted into the Department of Civil Engineering. This requires completion of a simple form that provides evidence of the student's commitment to complete his/her degree in Civil Engineering.
Once formally accepted into the CE program, students are assigned a permanent advisor to assist them with course and career decisions. A student may request an individual faculty member as an advisor if he/she chooses to do so.
