Graduate Students
Statement from the Chair
![]() Dr. Mohamed F. Dahab |
Welcome to the University of Nebraska Department of Civil Engineering graduate programs web pages. Our Department is located in both Lincoln and Omaha, and we are the only Department in the College of Engineering and Technology that offers a full range of graduate programs on both campuses.
Recruitment of top quality graduate students at all levels is one of our highest priorities. This is necessitated by the expansion of our research programs and activities in all areas of civil and environmental engineering in Lincoln and Omaha
In Civil Engineering, we offer graduate programs leading to Master of Science (MSCE) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Civil Engineering. In addition, we are the home of UNL's interdepartmental Master of Science Program in Environmental Engineering (ENVE). The Department also participates in a College wide program leading to the Master of Engineering (MENG) in the Construction speciality.
By browsing through these pages, I hope that you will find a wealth of information about our graduate programs, including information on application requirements and procedures, categories of admission, and financial aid including graduate teaching and research assistantships. Additional information is provided in the Graduate Studies Admissions Guide, published by the UNL Office of Graduate Studies. If you need additional information, we invite you to call us at 1(402)472-2371 or to write us at: .
Graduate Studies in Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering at UNL offers programs of research and instruction leading to the Master of Science in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering and the Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering (The doctoral program is offered through the College of Engineering and Technology unified Ph.D. program under the Civil Engineering option). These programs are offered on both campuses of the University in Lincoln and Omaha.
The faculty members in Civil Engineering offer a balance of expertise covering the five major civil engineering fields in which students may specialize: environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering and water resources engineering. In Fall 2003, about 60 graduate students were enrolled mostly on a full basis, and most of whom were supported either as graduate research assistants (GRA) or graduate teaching assistants (GTA).
