Personal Description:
Mohamed Dahab, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE
Dr. Mohamed Dahab is Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Nebraska. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Iowa State University with MS and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Engineering. His research interests include biological treatment, nutrient removal, biosolids management, and the use of natural systems for wastewater treatment. A Fulbright Research Professor, he is engaged internationally with university programs in Austria, Brazil, Egypt, Hungary, Korea, and Spain; among others. He is a registered professional engineer (PE) and a Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE).
In addition to being the immediate Past President of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), Dr. Dahab a member of the Board of Directors of the Water Environment Research Foundation; the Scientific Program Committee of the Stockholm International Water Institute; and the USA National Committee of the International Water Association (IWA). He served as Trustee of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Environmental Advisory Board. In addition to WEF and IWA, Dr. Dahab is a member of American Society of Civil Engineers; the American Water Works Association; the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors; and the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.

- Risk management techniques for the prevention and control of groundwater contamination.

- Recognized widely for research in the areas of nitrate removal from groundwater supplies using biological denitrification; nutrient removal from wastewater; the use of wetlands and natural systems for small-community wastewater treatment; and pollution prevention and waste minimization in the areas of solid and hazardous waste management engineering.

- Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on research and technology development projects of more than $4,000,000. Principal funding has been from Federal agencies including the U.S. EPA, the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and state agencies including the Department of Environmental Quality and the Cities of Lincoln and Kearney.
