Research Interests:
Interests include physics of sediment transport, fluid mechanics instrumentation, environmental hydraulics, fluvial hydraulics, and interactions between aquatic organisms and hydraulic processes.
Specific examples of past and current research include:
- Fish passage design for warm water fish species.
- Utilization of compost for erosion control on slopes.
- Investigation of flow patterns in a large, shallow lake to determine advection of dissolved oxygen. Field measurements, numerical models, and a physical model were all employed.
- Measurement of turbulence distributions in river meanders.
- Assessment of watershed characteristics using digital elevation models (DEM's).
- Experimental investigation of the effects of pipe inclination angle on the transport of suspended solids.
- Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) analysis of turbulence above a rippled sand bed in an oscillatory flow.
- Experimental determination of a sediment entrainment function for unsteady flows.
- Measurement of shear stress distributions beneath a model barge tow.
