Preparing Innovative Leaders for Tomorrow

EEW

Engineering Exploration Week (EEW):

EEW is a one-week day camp comprised of mini-workshops for students entering grades 10-12. The camp is hosted at The Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI) in Omaha, where participating students explore engineering programs available at the Omaha campus.

The workshops will be held June 8-12, 2009. Lunch will be provided at all sessions.

If you have a passion for science and math, join us for fun activities that will give you a better understanding of the many facets of engineering.

* Pay by the session or participate in all five days for the discounted price of $175.

Computer & Electronics Engineering
Monday, June 8
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Have you ever wondered how your alarm clock works or how your car knows when you do not have your seatbelt on? In this session, we will investigate how electronics play an important role in everything a person does on a daily basis--even how some people brush their teeth! We will learn a little about the fundamentals of digital electronics, then simulate a project in software. From this simulation, we will then physically build the project on the breadboard and test it by daisychaining several projects together to see what happens!

Civil Engineering
Tuesday, June 9
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Civil engineering is the art and science of designing the infrastructure that make up a CIVILized society. This infrastructure includes: highways, buildings, railways, bridges, airports, tunnels, and water reservoirs. Civil engineers design structures that meet the needs of growing populations while protecting the environment, reducing the dangers from natural hazards like earthquakes, and considering future needs of the community. Join us in learning how cool it is to be a civil engineer!

Construction Engineering and Management
Wednesday, June 10
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Construction Engineering and Construction Management are growing occupations that incorporate the skills necessary to design and/or manage multimillion dollar projects. These skills provide you the opportunity to travel the country and the world. In this session, we will learn the basics of construction project management, such as working on teams, and construction engineering as it relates to building structures. We will divide into teams and build a bridge using K'nex, which we'll then test to see how much weight it can hold. Most importantly, we'll have fun!

Architectural Engineering
Thursday, June 11
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Have you ever wondered what happens once a building is designed? Your questions will be answered in this fun interactive workshop, where you will learn the variety of facets to building design. Explore how the mechanical, acoustic, electrical, lighting and structural building components come together when designing a building.

$35

Industry Visit Day
Friday, June 12
8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Participants will travel to local engineering firms to tour their facilities, meet with current engineering professionals to learn more about the field of engineering.
